Frequently asked questions

Which audio formats can I convert to MIDI?

MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A/AAC, OGG/Vorbis and Opus. For MP4 and MOV videos the converter uses the sound track. Files can be up to 60 MB and 5 minutes long.

Can I convert a video to MIDI?

Yes — upload the MP4 or MOV file and the converter reads its sound track. A video without sound cannot be converted.

Why does my audio give odd notes?

Background music, reverb and several instruments in the same range confuse the transcription. For the cleanest MIDI, use a recording of a single instrument or voice.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Yes, it is free and you do not need an account. Each visitor can convert up to 10 files and download 2 MIDI files per day (UTC). Previewing on the piano roll does not count as a download.

What happens to the files I upload?

Your audio and the MIDI result are used only to run the conversion and are deleted automatically within 48 hours.

Can it turn a full song into MIDI?

A full mix with drums, bass and vocals only gives a rough draft. Splitting a whole song into one MIDI track per instrument is planned as a separate feature.
